Our story began in 2000 when we met (for the second time) at a personal development workshop. Ed was in medical school, Wendie was completing medical school, and was on her way to New York for her OB/GYN residency.
In 2008, after completing our respective medical schools and residencies, we started Visions HealthCare. Because it had an inspirational vision that spoke to people and transformed their health, it was wildly successful. We grew rapidly from 3 employees in 3900 square feet of space to 110 employees in 30,000 square feet of space in under 5 years. We were the largest functional medicine practice in the country and offered many treatment modalities such as acupuncture, chiropractic, osteopathy, psychiatry, psychology, nutrition, spiritual medicine, energy medicine and more. During our 8 year tenure, we had the privilege of serving over 20,000 patients.
Unfortunately, due to a range of factors and challenges, many of which can be attributed to inexperience with managing capital and growth, we had to close our doors in 2015. We were both devastated. This had been Ed’s lifelong dream, and we had poured all of our resources into it.
Taking some time to reflect and explore our options, we saw that ultimately, our calling is to inspire and empower people to be vital, vibrant and healthy until 100 years of age. We set out to create a sustainable, reproducible model, building on what we learned the first time.
In 2016, we opened Five Journeys, a membership-based wellness organization that incorporates functional medicine and our unique approach to what we consider to be the five core aspects of health (Physical, Chemical, Emotional, Social and Spiritual) to create a comprehensive plan for vitality and wellness. Each person’s journey is unique. We uncover the root cause of problems, issues, and illnesses, and then help our members solve them. We have facilitated the reversal, prevention and resolution of many chronic health challenges.
Every day, we witness the incredible results this work creates for our members. And it’s our sincere privilege, every day.
