Marianela Lavena, MD
Marianela’s vocation to be a doctor started at a very young age inspired by her father that is also a doctor. She always had the calling to serve and work as an instrument to heal and improve the quality of life of her loved ones and the people that she came across. So for her, working as a doctor is her life purpose. She feels that she is giving a small contribution to healing our world. While working and in her everyday life she practices being present, not only offering her knowledge but also unconditional kindness and acceptance, holding a safe space to facilitate her patients’ healing.
Marianela graduated from the University of Buenos Aires Medical School in 2003, where she began her internal medicine residency. She then switched into a Family Medicine residency when she moved to the US in 2005. While in residency she started her own healing journey by practicing yoga, mindfulness mediation, and by following a whole-food diet. Since then, she has been teaching these practices to her patients, walking with them in their own paths of healing their bodies and minds. Before joining Five Journeys, Marianela practiced medicine at Umass Memorial Health Care.
She has been applying functional medicine principles in the practice for the last two years. She has been holding group meetings that teach mindfulness meditation, stress reduction techniques, and healthy eating for several years.
When Marianela is not working she enjoys spending time with her husband and kids, practicing yoga, qigong, meditation, playing the guitar, and cooking healthy meals for her family.
